Double Header Drama: DC Dominate MI, RR Continue Winning Run

April 4 offers two games and a full day of IPL cricket, and the tournament does not disappoint. From Delhi to Ahmedabad, there is drama at both ends.

The afternoon match is a study in how young players are shaping this IPL. Delhi Capitals choose to field first against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, and Jasprit Bumrah gives a masterclass: tight, varied, and miserly. But it is not Bumrah who steals the day. Suryakumar Yadav, leading MI in Hardik Pandya’s absence, manages only 51 off 36 balls, and Mumbai cannot push beyond 162 for 6.

When Delhi chase, they lose two wickets inside the first two overs, and it feels precarious. Then Sameer Rizvi walks in. His 51-ball 90, with seven sixes and seven fours, outshines Bumrah’s frugal four overs of 21 runs in a way that no one anticipated. He takes apart MI’s attack with the kind of high-wrist, athletic hitting that has become his calling card, picking up bowlers early, using the angles, and treating every delivery like a problem to be solved rather than a ball to survive. Delhi wins by six wickets with 11 balls to spare. Pathum Nissanka provides a calm 44 off 30 in support, and Rizvi walks off as Player of the Match for the second game in a row.

In the evening, Rajasthan Royals post 210 for 6 in Ahmedabad against Gujarat Titans, with Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting 55 off 36 and Dhruv Jurel following up with a free-flowing 75 off 42. Gujarat chases hard; Sai Sudharsan anchors beautifully with 73 off 44 balls, and after ten overs, with nine wickets in hand and 111 needed from 60 balls, the Titans look comfortable. Then Ravi Bishnoi steps up.

Bishnoi introduces leg spin into the middle overs and finishes with 4 for 41, completely turning the match on its head. Gujarat loses wickets in clusters, and their last few batters cannot maintain the momentum. They finish at 204 for 8, six runs short. Bishnoi’s intervention is the difference between a comfortable RR win and a thriller; he makes it the latter but ensures Rajasthan gets the points.

Two young matchwinners. Two different games. Same result: the IPL is in full flight and producing exactly the kind of cricket it promises every season.
